An alcoholic who was so drunk he didn’t remember being told he couldn’t enter Church Litten for 48 hours has appeared in court.
Andrew Taylor, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a section 35 direction excluding a person from an area when he appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 7th August, Police received several reports of a group of men drinking in Church Litten Park. The group of 3 men – including Taylor – were issued with a dispersal notice from the area for 48 hours.
Taylor didn’t acknowledge the notice and ignored the officers issuing it, before leaving the paper with them and walking off.
The very next day, on 8th August, the 42-year-old was spotted in the area by a Police officer on her lunch break.
Defending himself in the courtroom, Taylor said that he was an alcoholic that drinks every day meaning he didn’t remember the dispersal notice being served.
Back in May, Taylor was handed a 6-month conditional discharge after he stole 12 cans of Kronenburg. He was also warned not to commit any offences within 6-months of his sentence, something Taylor admitted was the case.
As he failed to do so, he was fined £60 for the theft in May, £40 for this new offence and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge fee of £16.

Who is the 16 pound ‘victim’ surcharge for ?
The wpc on her lunch break ?
World Health Organisation 1972 states that alcoholism is a disease (fact).
IW Police, go and catch some ‘real’ criminals.
Like your name you call yourself is exactly how you are talking B.LOX on here
These ‘alcoholics’ can become a real nuisance and cause anti social behaviour. When they are drunk, they take up too much Police time. So yes, they are criminals and they do break the law. The law does apply to them even though they get so p#ssed they can’t remember they’ve been served with a banning order.
Sad really, the drink will eventually pickle their livers.
He won’t pay a penny of this as will not be working and we the tax payers will of been paying for everything, including the alcohol he’s not stollen. Alcohol is a choice – if addicted then there is ample help to stop.
Registered alcoholics can claim a benefit as they are classed as a drug addict who gets FREE methadone.
Get it right pal, u don’t need methadone for alcohol
After 6 months it’s ok to commit an offence?
I’m on holiday mark so save me
He got warned big time then ,just to get a fine,I expect I will probably c his name again in January
