A man who was driving whilst under the influence of cocaine and cannabis has been handed a 23-month driving ban.
Lee Millington, 33, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that just before 03:00 on 17th August, Millington was seen driving his blue Vauxhall Corsa at speed on St Johns Road in Ryde.
Further down the road officers stopped Millington, instantly noticing a strong smell of cannabis from his car. A roadside drugs wipe was conducted and it returned a positive test for cannabis.
He was taken to Newport Police Station and asked to complete a blood sample. This later returned positive readings for Cocaine, THC, and Benzoylecgonine – the breakdown derivative of cocaine.
Millington was last in court back in December 2019 when he faced a charge of harassment.
Defending, Henry Farley said that Millington was sheepish and remorseful and that drugs aren’t a regular part of his life. He added that the 33-year-old had lost his job as a removal man as a result of this incident.
Magistrates sentenced Millington to a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work attached. He was also handed a 23-month driving ban and ordered to pay £40 costs with a £114 surcharge fee.

Stupid man. Taking drugs has lost this man his job. Why do people think is ok to take drugs? Drugs ruin lives, families and communities.
No job, no driving licence and of no fixed abode. Just about sums up what effect drugs have on someone’s life.
No fixed abode but still affords a car, fuel and drugs! Well done government!
What has the government to do with his life style. He has to live somewhere to get a licence, where does he get the money from? Apart from thieving.
Strange that the Island does not care if a vehicle is parked along a Road with
NO MOT
Obviously IW Council are clueless when it comes to the Government motoring rules!
Vehicle is parked outside the Council Houses along Great Preston Road on the bend just before
Nicholson Road.
No one likes a dirty low life GRASS!!!
With all those drugs in his system he could have flown home.
