A man who snorted ketamine the night before riding his motorbike whilst more than 10x the drug drive limit has been handed a 12-month driving ban.
Joe Male, 23, of Sandown Road in Lake, pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of drugs when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday).
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that at 19:20 on 26th July, Male was stopped by Police riding his Yamaha motorbike along Medina Avenue in Newport.
Upon stopping the 23-year-old officers noticed the strong smell of cannabis. A roadside drugs wipe was completed with Male testing positive for the drug.
At Newport Police Station, a blood sample was taken. The results showed that whilst the level of cannabis in Male’s system was below the legal level, the amount of ketamine in his system read 225 – the legal limit is 20.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client was stopped by Police for no real reason and that officers happened to be in the area. He also added that the 23-year-old had snorted ketamine the night before at a party, but didn’t know just how long it can stay in your system.
Magistrates handed Male a 12-month driving ban. He was ordered to pay a fine of £300, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £105.

Barry Arnett – what a clown
He only defends scummers
He is fortunate to be paid to defend the indefensible.
Gets well paid for it though.
So there was a strong smell of cannabis but he didn’t have any on him and bearly had any in his system???
there was also lots of ketamine in his system. He was clearly being a muppet to get stopped in the first place
How many times has snorter snorted before and not got caught. Putting all our lives in danger pratt.
What an idiot. Snorting horse tranquilizer. Was it worth it chap? Was the so called high worth losing your licence over? People can’t seem to go out and have a good time without smoking, snorting or injecting something into their bodies. These people must be very boring to need a drug to have a good time!
Stopped for no reason?, Well clearly they had good reason (drug driving)and instincts were correct. Should be alot more random pull overs, maybe like when they used to close a lane and do those survey things. Alot of unsign written van’s should be regularly stopped with there agressive driving,drug/drunk driving and generally up to no good.
Can someone please explain to me how there is a drug drive limit? Cannabis and ketamine among others are illegal to possess, use and distribute. So how can there be a limit in which you are allowed to take and still drive under the influence of?
And there they all are, full of all this ”Think Bike” B/S, and they are driving snorted up, defying the road rules and speed limits, cutting us up and on the wrong side of the road because they can’t make the bends. SORRY I’ll THINK BIKE WHEN THEY DRIVE LEGALLY.
