Pupils, families and staff at Dover Park Primary School have shown an outpouring of generosity this December by donating a wide range of festive food items to the Isle of Wight Food Bank as part of a community Christmas initiative.
The school took part in a Reverse Advent Calendar project, inviting each year group to bring in different seasonal food items. Donations included hot chocolate, traditional stuffing, Christmas puddings and other festive favourites, all carefully chosen to help local families enjoy a more complete Christmas dinner.
To add a fun twist, children were invited to attend school in their home clothes in exchange for their contributions. The initiative was met with an enthusiastic response, with donations quickly filling the school and highlighting the strong sense of compassion and community spirit among pupils and staff.
Mr Kirby, Headteacher at Dover Park Primary School, has said:
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our parents, carers, staff and, most importantly, our wonderful children.
“The school community never ceases to amaze me with their generosity and willingness to support others, which reflects our school values of ‘Enjoy, Belong and Believe’. We hope this fantastic community effort will make a real difference to families across the Isle of Wight this Christmas.”
The school has said it remains committed to promoting social responsibility and compassion among its pupils and is proud to support the Isle of Wight Food Bank during the festive season.
