An ornamental ‘Fairy Garden’ in Ryde has been smashed to pieces in an act of mindless vandalism that has angered members of the local community.
In a secluded area of woodland between Oakfield and Smallbrook lies the Fairy Garden – known only by word of mouth as an area for all to enjoy.
Sadly, unknown individuals have over the weekend vandalised the area by smashing it to pieces and even taking a number of items. The garden had only recently been completed.
The act has left the local community angry at the presumed youths that have ruined the community feature for all.
One local, Sara, has said:
“It’s so sad, what is the Isle of Wight coming to?
“Whoever done this should be ashamed. There is absolutely no reason to do this”.
Lesley adds:
“Mindless act of vandalism. Shame a small group have to spoil it for everyone else”.
Another local, Kay, adds:
“I do hope they are proud of themselves, absolutely disgusting behaviour, makes me wonder how they have been raised”.

May be time to reopen Whitecroft as it seems we have an influx of sick minded people on the Island. This once beautiful Island has Slowly become infested by people who have nothing better to do. They say they have nowhere to go yet how many facilities for the young have been closed because of these very same vandals. End of rant.
Wanton destruction, the Fairies won’t like this – remember Karma?
clearly the perpetrators knew of this “little known fairy garden” and probably did this to get at someone, who had wronged them in their eyes
blame the do-gooders that took discipline out of the schools and if there’s none in the home.
there’s nothing.
Totally agree with you!.
This country could learn a lot from Japan. There, little cute things abound, displays of flowers in pots outside of shops or houses where the public walk past are left alone, don’t have to be taken in at night, here those things would be thrown all over the streets or in peoples gardens. But then, the kids there are expected to clean their classrooms and the whole country has respect and civilized behaviour bred into them. Britain is a disgrace, a lot of the blame is the do gooders who are always there standing in front of the ignorant people like shields, constantly making excuses for them and expecting them to live among everyone else.
An act of mindless vandalism carried out by the feral scum that infest areas of Ryde whos parents don’t care what they are doing as long as they are out of the house and not bothering them coupled with utter lack of discipline, self respect or respect for others and no fear of realistic punishment.
Absolutely agree Reg. You’ve explained some parents idea of how NOT to bring up their kids. Ferral, wild and out of control. No respect or discipline. So wrong.
Totally agree discipline and respect must have been removed from the dictionary in these scumbags eyes….
Unless of course they are totally illiterate …
To be able to think this behaviour is acceptable ….
Sorry but parents should know what their kids are up 2 it’s called being a responsible parent ,therefore they should take responsibility for their charming little scumbags ……
Name and shame them when caught ….
People you can’t keeping blaming the parents! A lot of the time kids can be a perfect or very well behaved at home or at school but when out with friends or unsupervised they can act completely differently and this isn’t a reflection on how they are “parented” as people keep saying! Also there is nothing to say at this time if it was kids that have caused that vandalism! This could be mindless adults with a vendetta and unfortunately what is a very nice public area has been destroyed! I hope that it can be repaired and maybe so form of protection can be given so it doesn’t happen in future!
Oh look the scourge of Ryde strikes yet again
Kids and teenagers smash everything. Not all are bad obviously, but the ones who are don’t give a fig about anything. They have not been bought up to respect anything or anyone. Shame the local community couldn’t find out who was responsible and dish out some behavioural lessons.
Bring back the birch.
This is so sad. Whoever it was just stole a bit of magic from the innocent. My children would have loved this.
Think of all the little tots that have visited that place and kept the memory of it for weeks.. dreamt about fairy’s.
You horrible nasty mindless human B@st#rds!! drunk or sober young or old, what is wrong with you?!!!!
Very sad to see as we took our grandchildren there when walking the dogs. Alot of effort, care and thought ruined in seconds by those who knew it was wrong but know there is no consequences for there mindless actions.
Whoever did this clearly shows they have no respect for other peoples property.
Some appear to think that what is thiers is theirs and what is yours is also theirs.
I bet if something of theirs was taken or destroyed, they would be screaming and ranting like hell and insisting on severve punishment.
Double standards.
Me and the Mrs found this place last year and we so wanted to take our grandkids there when we finally get to see them again , it’s a absolutely tragedy this has happened no matter who has done it
People should look after your beautiful island with pride. You dont want it turning out to be a hovel like where I’m from London. Overrated cesspit full of crime and filth. I love your island I would love to live there please dont ruin it. I hope they catch the idiots that did this and put them in Parkhurst.
This is what happens when the trash from the inner cities are moved here.
Really. Island born and bred are perfect then? Dont make me laugh.
Those who did it would probably be the very first to be screaming about their ‘rights’ as loud as you like from the nearest rooftop.
Time to bring back the Press-Gang.
