Campers started arriving at sunny Seaclose Park for this year’s Isle of Wight Festival yesterday (Thursday), kickstarting a 4-day extravaganza. Crowds are still arriving on the Island today as the festival gets underway proper with performances from the likes of The Darkness, Crowded House, James Marriott, The Streets and The Prodigy on today’s bill. The glorious sunshine – some may say the first real heat of Summer on what is the longest day of the year too – has got campers in a fantastic mood, with the good weather set to continue. The odd shower here and there may be experienced overnight into Sunday, however. Peter Crouch got proceedings underway in The Big Top on Thursday afternoon as he hosted a live recording of That Peter Crouch Podcast ahead of England’s EUROs match against Denmark. Crouchy, Chris and Steve warmed up the crowd ahead of kick-off with football banter, insightful discussions and of course some signature dance moves from Peter himself.
RPJ Band and Dagny also performed on the Big Top stage before Scouting For Girls closed Day 1 of the festival with a feelgood, singalong set including hits ‘She’s So Lovely’ and ‘This Ain’t a Love Song’. Other top acts set to perform in Newport this week include Natalie Imbruglia, Jake Shears, S Club, Jessie J, Keane, Pet Shop Boys, Beverley Knight, McFly, Zara Larsson, Simple Minds and, rounding off the 4-day event, Green Day! Keep an eye on Island Echo – especially on our Facebook Page – for photos from across the weekend…
