A crash has resulted in significant front-end damage to a car and has blocked a main road in Carisbrooke tonight (Friday).
The incident has occurred on Clatterford Road, near to The Waverley pub.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene and are checking over the female driver of a silver Kia.
Island Echo understands that the Kia has crashed into a parked Ford Focus.
The road is currently blocked in both directions but local traffic is able to use Nodgham Lane as a diversion route.
Police have been alerted.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – The scene has now been cleared.
UPDATE SATURDAY – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that a 33-year-old woman from Newport has been charged with drink driving.

They need to double yellow this whole road! There’s no need for any of the occupants of those houses along there to park on the rd, they all have either big front gardens that should be dug up or drive ways!!
If there is no need for parking along here why Is it always packed. What we need is sensible and considerate drivers ( not a reflection on this incident btw)
It’s a road, roads are meant for things travelling along them not to park your cars on! I’ve driven along there many a time and noticed the driveways are empty, if it got double yellowed tonight most people would park on there drives, and the ones with out a drive way would get one put in
So now it’s not the poor driving but the parked vehicles fault!!! You people are unbelievable
Y’all are some mpcs arguing over parked cars get a grip
I think you’ve got lost in translation somewhere, most houses now have an average of 3 cars, so unless all houses have a sizeable driveway, some cars will have to park on the roadside. Also, for those that do not have driveways, perhaps they do not have the money to get one done, they’re not cheap. So I’d like to assume that you have a sizeable driveway that you park your vehicle on, and family members/friends that visit you can also park on your driveway and not the roadside?
But on another note, we all pay road tax, therefore we can park where we choose to (where legal, obviously).
But I think the issue here is the driver who thought it was smart to operate heavy machinery after consuming copious amounts of alcohol.
May I ask for your source of reference that most houses have an average of three cars now, Witch?
Dont let ur son go down on me
Are you on day release??…time to go back to the funny farm were life is beautiful all the time, you will like those nice young men in their clean white coats…their coming to take you away, ha ha he he, their coming to take you away…then you will be basket weaving and listening to twerping bird’s…
Don’t let ur sons go down on u
Fancy meating u here
Hey baby I wanna know if ur be my girl
See u at work with ur p45
It’s not about the cars parking on the road .it s the stupid woman drinking over the limit AND driving .
Far too many drink or drug drivers on our roads now, it’s a culture that needs to be stamped out….but don’t hold your breath because the police only show up after a crash…
Pray really, why would the police turn up before a crash?? Maybe the f***wits should stop drinking and driving.
All moving cars eventually stop and park somewhere, having parked on road is safer as slows moving traffic. Saying have to park on Driveway is like saying if you don’t have a driveway/off road parking then you can’t have a car !.
Most would and do use drives, as so many door mirrors knocked off by impatience drivers etc.
Drink driving, more like blind driving this could easily been a child/teenager/dog walker or elderly person. Message clear – don’t drink(alcohol) and drive the consequence could be immense to others and the driver.
I feel for the innocent party whose car has been damaged,….if there aren’t yellow lines then it is perfectly legal to park your car….
Hope she gets what she deserves!
And when she is able to drive again her insurance will go up to reflect her stupidity….
If anyone thinks every house down Clatterford Road has a driveway….then perhaps it is they that need the visit to specsavers.
Before making sweeping statements actually have a look.
If there was no parked cars, what sort of speeds would vehicles travel at?
Just Google earthed that rd and they all have front gardens Arthur, if there was no parked cars, drivers wouldn’t have to pull out and speed to gain a few meters, parking in the rd to slow traffic down is just stupid, I’m glad the persons car got crashed into, mayby next time there think about parking on there drive
Perhaps you ought to read my comment above about how most houses now have an average of 3 cars. Perhaps some of the houses down there have front gardens, but not driveways. Perhaps the owners do not want a driveway or cannot afford one. Lots of roads on this island have cars parked on them, so are you suggesting all roads should not have cars parked on them?
Quite frankly your statement is rude and insensitive for the owner of the car that was smashed into.
I so hope, like the other obnoxious commenter above that you have a sizeable driveway that you park your car upon. Or, that you never have to park on a road and have your car smashed into – especially by someone who has been drinking alcohol.
Or maybe irresponsible idiots shouldn’t drink and drive!
Parked vehicles or not,the issue here, yet again, is drunk drivers. And this Island is full of them.
It’s quite remarkable that some people are more concerned with cars parked on the roadside than with the actual issue; a drunk driver. Whether there were cars parked on the road or not, does that make what has happened okay? We all pay road tax, therefore, are entitled to park where we like, where legal and within reason, of course. So many busy body’s in todays world who think they can tell others what to do, where to park, to install a driveway…next they’ll be telling you how to wipe your ass!
I parked my big car in ur mum garage cause ur dad had a mini
ANYONE who drinks too much and drives are a total waste of space and need to be removed from society, just like all pathetic drunks. No will power, weak, stupid wasters.
