Emergency services are attending a collision on the main road between Newport and Cowes, which has resulted in the road being blocked in both directions.
A BMW 3-series convertible and a Fiat 500 appear to have been involved in the crash – both sustaining serious damage.
Each vehicle has come to a stop a significant distance from one another, indicating an element of speed.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene with 2 crews, an operational commander and a duty officer. A doctor’s car, which happened to be passing, has also stopped.
Buses and lorries are stuck in traffic, with light vehicles being turned around at Stag Lane. Motorists can divert via Noke Common.
UPDATE @ 21:40 – 3 people have been conveyed to hospital by ambulance, although their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Emergency services are standing down from the incident but Police remain on scene whilst the closure is in force.
It is endeavoured by Police that at least 1 lane will be re-opened shortly.
UPDATE @ 22:50 – The road has now re-opened.
When’s it going to stop why don’t they learn, they have no respect for the island roads
SPEEDERS……..again. Slow down, you might just get to your destination in one piece. No respect for the rules of the road.
And respect other road users who get property & health damaged!

Have always driven with one old saying in my head – better to be late then dead on time. Some drivers need to slow down . Hope the people taken to hospital are okay and make a quick recovery.
The island media outlets are reporting traffic incidents across the island nearly everyday. They can’t all be attributed to wasps on the windscreen, tyre failure, or medical traumas. The fact is most days you can witness idiotic and inconsiderate driving across the island and so it stands to reason they’ll be an ‘occurrence of conflict’ at some point. Do ya reckon one of the side effects of the pandemic has affected peoples ability to keep their vehicles either on the highway or rubber side down?
