Newport Methodist Church came alive to the sounds of Christmas as Cowes Concert Band rounded off its festive tour.
The 28-strong brass band played to a capacity audience at the Quay Street church – the ensemble’s final Christmas concert of 2017.
Earlier in December the band performed at Binstead and East Cowes Methodist churches and All Saints’ at Gurnard. It also played carols at Osborne House during its Victorian Christmas weekend.
Andrew Norman, Musical Director said:
“It has been a very successful Christmas season for the band – we have played to large audiences and raised money for local causes. Donations from our final concert will be split between the church and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.”
Audiences at the concerts were treated to carols plus other festive music including a special arrangement of the 12 Days of Christmas, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and Frosty The Snowman featuring the band’s bass trombonist, Colin Reeves.
During the final concert Andrew announced joint winners of the Player of the Year 2017 award – Nikki White, the band’s former principal cornet player who lost her battle with cancer this year, and her partner Stuart Kent who plays flugel horn. Andrew paid tribute to Nikki’s commitment and dedication during her many years with the band.
