As winter sets in and we all retreat to the warmth of our homes, it seems we love nothing more than a cosy night in watching a good film.
Housebuilder Barratt Homes, which is building new homes on the Isle of Wight, asked people across the region about their ideal evening in front of the telly, and the results showed more than a third (39.9%) would opt for a cracking movie above all else.
Across the age groups a good film was the top choice but the rising popularity of streaming services such as Netflix varies according to age.
Overall more than 25% opted for Netflix as their ideal TV evening but this was as high as 50% in those aged from 18-24 years old and fell to just 6% of those over 55 years old.
And it was the opposite when asked about watching soap operas, which were chosen by 17% of those over 55 years old but just 6% of the 18-24 year olds.
The survey revealed that live sport was watched by 10% of viewers across all age groups and it seems that reality TV and the news are watched by all age groups equally, although just 3% opt for the news as the best thing to watch.
Sport was more popular with men with 18% opting for live action on the TV compared with just 3% of women, while women are still keener on the soaps with 17% keen on these compared with just 7% of men.
Michelle Storer, Sales Director for Barratt Homes says:
“Our designers work hard to create new homes that our buyers are more than happy to hibernate in throughout the harsh winter months – whatever is happening on the outside.
“It seems a good night in front of the TV is what we need to tide us over until spring arrives.”
Barratt Homes is building new homes on the Isle of Wight at Hawthorn Meadows in Whippingham and St George’s Gate in Shide.
