A Sandown paedophile awaiting sentencing for 21 child sex offences has now also pleaded guilty to possession of drugs with intent to supply.
Joshua Pelling, 35, of Avenue Road in Sandown pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply and to a breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this afternoon (Tuesday).
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on Sunday (18th December), officers from Hampshire Constabulary attended Pelling’s home address on Avenue Road. As soon as they entered the property officers were hit with a strong smell of cannabis. Pelling was initially arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.
Officers searched Pelling’s home with his help and found drugs in his drawer and elsewhere throughout the property. The total of the drugs seized was 310g and was valued at approximately £3,100.
The 35-year-old’s phone was also seized with messages showing that he was concerned in the supply of drugs and was therefore further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.
When conducting a search of his phone officers noticed an undeclared social media username that was being used on the app Discord. The username wasn’t listed in those used by Pelling, as per the requirements of his SHPO.
The 35-year-old is currently awaiting sentence for 21 sexual crimes involving children as young as 10, including making and taking indecent photos and inciting children to engage in sexual activity. He was due to be sentenced at the Crown Court last week, however, sentencing has now been delayed until 2023.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client was already expecting a substantial prison sentence and that there was no evidence in these latest offences that suggested they would directly affect children.
The case has been adjourned until 3rd February 2023 to allow these offences and the sexual crimes to be sentenced altogether at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
Pelling has been remanded in custody until that date, spending Christmas behind bars.
