A contractor working on the Island’s rail network has suffered minor injuries following an incident during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
The first train of the day at 05:35 from Ryde St John’s to Ryde Pier Head was cancelled following the incident around 5 hours beforehand near Rowborough Bridge, Brading.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the male suffered a minor ‘electrocution’, something Island Line have been unable to confirm. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have confirmed no one was conveyed to hospital.
A spokesperson for Island Line has told Island Echo:
“Island Line services were slightly disrupted this morning following an incident near Rowborough shortly after midnight in which a contractor received minor injuries whilst working on site.
“As a result the first service between St John’s Ryde and the Pier was replaced by a taxi. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
“Safety is always our first priority”.
An investigation into the circumstances behind the incident has been launched.
