The ‘technical closure’ of an Island sixth form will not impact on any pupil’s education, the Isle of Wight Council has said.
Subject to Cabinet approval next Thursday (15th July), the authority will start a 4-week consultation on the removal of sixth form provision at Carisbrooke College.
The council is reassuring the community that the proposal is simply a ‘paper exercise’ to reflect arrangements which have been in place since September 2016.
Councillor Debbie Andre, who leads on children’s services, education and skills, explained:
“This is the removal of a school sixth form that has no pupils and exists on paper alone.
“Since 2016, all post-16 pupils at Carisbrooke College have been registered under Medina College, its sister school, with excellent sixth-form education being provided at the Island VI Form in Nodehill, Newport.
“This will not change in anyway — there will be no detrimental effects on students or staff from this proposal.”

I don’t think you could come up with a better demonstration of how so called “consultations” are merely a pointless box ticking exercise if you tried.
