CONSERVATIVES SEEKING 3RD LEADER IN 4 MONTHS AS COUNCILLOR SUZIE ELLIS RESIGNS

“I have seen the best and worst of politics,”  those are the outgoing words of the Isle of Wight Council’s first female Conservative group leader, Suzie Ellis.

Councillor Ellis has announced her resignation from the group leader position today (Thursday) after just four months in the role, and weeks after losing a narrow bid to become leader of the Isle of Wight Council.

In a statement, Councillor Ellis, the representative for Central Rural since 2021, said:

“Having been asked by Conservative members to lead our group in exploring how best we could take the helm of the council, I brought the Conservative group as close as it has been during this administration, to securing the leadership. However, it wasn’t to be.

“It has been a tumultuous few weeks during which I have seen the best and the worst of politics and I now wish to concentrate principally on continuing to work hard for my ward – and on my business and family.”

At the end of September, Councillor Ellis stood against Councillor Phil Jordan to be the new leader of the Isle of Wight Council, after lodging, but then withdrawing, a motion of no confidence in former leader Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox.

A close vote saw each contender get 19 votes apiece, with the casting vote falling in favour of Councillor Jordan.

Speaking after her loss, Councillor Ellis said she hoped it marked a change in direction for the Alliance Administration and hoped the bickering could stop so the council could move forward and do what is needed for the good of the Island.

The Conservative group at County Hall will now be seeking its third leader in four months.

Councillor Joe Robertson led the group before Councillor Ellis, but stood down to focus on his campaign for Island MP.

I think you will actually find the Tories both nationally & locally in total disarray , unfortunately for the public the Tories put the party first & fail at every level in what they should be doing.

Conservative Councillors seem to change leader as often as Conservative MPs
Must be a common theme with CONservatives in general
Out of Ideas, Out of Touch & Out of Time

It’s time we got rid of all of them, & fought back against their Greed based policies.
Time for the wealth generated by working people to be shared between everyone for the benefit of everyone, & not just sucked up by the CONservatives, their backers, and supporters.

I’m afraid all politicians and Councillors are out of touch, they have no idea, you will always have this problem while the ‘rich’ are making the decisions!!

“you will always have this problem while the ‘rich’ are making the decisions”

Excatly the reason why we need to get rid of the CONservatives,..
Their fundamental ethos, underlying everything else they do, is to ensure the Rich at least stay rich, but preferebly get richer,… enevitably at the expense of the less well off….

Liebour.

Are you torybots still using that old trope?

The depth and frequency of Tory lying is 100 times that of Labour.

And you know it.

There is a massive middle ground between Greed based CONservative ethos, where the vast majority of wealth, is owned and controlled by a very small minority of people….

and communism..where (at least in theory) everyone is equal

(but as history has proven, with communism, unfortunately, some are always more equal than others,
& there will always be greedy b@stards who will do what ever they can to get more than their fair share, without the work
In communism, they’re usually the ‘party members’,..
in a democracy, like ours, they call themselves ‘CONservatives’

Back to school with you. Socialism is not communism.

The primary tenet of socialism is that everyone pays according to a ability and takes according to need.

There is nothing in socialism that says that people can’t be wealthy or be paid more or less than others.

Communism never works as it always degenerates into an autocracy.

The NHS is the epitome of socialism. We pay, via taxes, according to our ability, and take according to our medical need.

Compare that with the “freedom” they have in the US, where access to healthcare is entirely dependent on you ability to pay for it.

Doesn’t matter if it’s Communism or Socialism, neither of them can compete with the pure efficiency of Capitalism. Only with Capitalism can a small amount get ridiculously rich while the rest live in mediocrity. Only Capitalism can create competition where there is one winner who is granted a monopoly where they can take advantage of the people. There is no alternative.

Poor wee pet. My heart bleeds for her.
This council is a shower of excrement. Utterly incompetent and it is being driven off a cliff by a drunk driver. The sooner the government steps in and takes control, the better for us all.

For gods sake! STOP this messing around playing quasi politics like a bunch of schoolkids. It matters not who has the best title, or who spits the dummy out or who is so up themselves that they honestly think the Island NEEDS them! Your JOB is to ensure the physical, financial and social prosperity of ALL of us, your JOB is to look at our issues and SOLVE them, not witter on like a bunch of argumentative ferrets, making all the noise, and achieving nothing! Just get over yourselves and start doing what we fools elected you to do. I have watched our council destroy itself every few years for decades, and I am sick of it.. Get your acts together, or walk away and let someone else have a play in the sandpit!

It is so funny reading the comments of all the moronic tory bashers on here. You will soon have your wish of a labour government and then you will really get what you deserve, massive unemployment, huge inflation, a bankrupt country, no change in the state of the NHS and mass strikes. I might take pity and throw a few coppers your way when you are on the streets begging. Just remember that you wanted it.

I doubt it. From what we have been told this week, Labour will do very little different other than ban zero hours contracts, which is a good thing. They are too scared to mess with the economy because none of them know what they are doing.

Unless I’m mistaken we already have all of the listed issues thanks to the Conservative mis-management of that pandemic and thinking they could just stop-start the economy and all would be well.

You know we are currently paying the highest rates of tax in 40 years, right?

You know we have the highest number of strikes since the 1970s, right?

You know the Tories were responsible for the highest rates of inflation since the 1980s, right?

You know we all used to be able to see dentists and GPs and hospital waiting lists were a fraction of what they are now before the Tories took over, right?

You know that, whatever Labour do, or don’t do, it won’t be anywhere near as bad as what another term of being ruled by the current incompetent, self-serving spivs would do to the country, right?
