bembridgeinshorelifeboatculveryaverlandUPDATED: Police and RNLI volunteers are this afternoon (Monday) searching the Culver Down area for a man in his 50s.

A search was launched earlier this morning after concerns were raised with Police for the welfare of a man aged in his 50s.

Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat is currently conducting a search of the coastline between Sandown and Bembridge having launched at 10:30.

policevanculverPolice are in attendance in the area and are conducting a search on foot.

Culver Down has been closed to motorists at the junction with Sandown Road.

UPDATE @ 12:45 – The gentleman being sought by Police has been located at the cliff edge.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are talking with the man to bring him to safety.

Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat has returned to station.

UPDATE @ 13:51 – It has been confirmed that the man located on Culver Down has been taken to safety and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for a check up this afternoon.

The incident at Culver has been concluded.
