Detectives are tracking down two serial burglars following a series of safe thefts on the Isle of Wight over the past few weeks, which Police are now saying are connected to one another.
Three businesses in the pub trade have been targeted by the unknown burglars since the first safe was stolen from The Waveley Pub in Carisbrooke on 7th November. Following the second safe theft just a week later at The Village Inn in Shanklin, questions were raised as to whether or not the two incidents were linked.
Two men were captured on CCTV taking the safe from The Waverley and again taking two safes from the Shanklin Old Village pub.
Now, after another safe theft this time at Island Ales, Yarmouth on 28th November, Police have confirmed they are treating the three incidents as connected meaning a pair of serial burglars are on the loose.
Each theft has taken place overnight from Friday into Saturday at around 04:00 leaving Island businesses wondering if the suspects will strike again tonight.
Scenes of crime officers have examined the scene of each burglary and have also examined two sites at Compton Bay and Devil’s Chimney in Ventnor, after the safes from The Waverley and The Village Inn were found, empty.
Thousands of pounds have been stolen by the criminals, who have been described as knowing what they are doing.
The investigation continues.
