UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Emergency services are this morning (Wednesday) attending a road traffic collision in Newport Town Centre.
Two fire appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance on St James Street at the junction with Crocker Street, alongside Police.
St James’ Street has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 12:10 – One female, believed to be in her 20s, has been extricated by firefighters from a black Honda Civic following a collision with a silver Suzuki Ignis, which is understood to have been driven by an elderly motorist.
Fire crews, two ambulances, an ambulance officer and several Police units are in attendance at the scene near Enteprise rental cars.
The Suzuki has narrowly avoided ploughing into the front of E.E Downer’s butchers, flattening and mounting a bollard.
No one has been seriously injured in the incident, with injuries being described by Police as ‘minor’.
The road remains closed in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicles by Stag Lane Motors takes place.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – St James’ Street has now reopened in both directions, however traffic remains heavy in and around the area.
