Newport Rowing Club’s Ollie Coulson and Toby Batchelor pulled off back to back wins at BTC and Woolston Regattas last weekend to seal the Hants & Dorset Championship for the Mens’ Junior Pair event.
4 straight wins mean they cannot be caught with 3 events remaining.
The pair kept to the race plan that has served them well all season, being fast off the start and controlling the race from the front.
The Sunday race saw a bigger fleet on the water as the Junior and Senior races were run together. They showed their strength and good technique as they finished close to the leading Senior boats.
Champagne corks will soon be popping in the old Medina river boathouse as this is the first Newport Men’s crew to win a Hants & Dorset Championship in the club’s 158-year history.
Toby also completed a busy weekend by making a good showing in the Novice Sculls final with a season’s best 3rd place.
