Islanders Denise Collis and Adrian Brewer met up in Jinja, Uganda this week to fly the Island Flag at the source of the River Nile.
Denise, who is working in Uganda on medical outreach and Adrian Brewer of local charity The Roll Out the Barrel Trust, who was visiting to establish new water and sanitation projects, took the Island Flag to the very source of the Nile to celebrate Isle of Wight Day.
Adrian said:
“So many people wanted to know what an Isle of Wight was, instead of where it is. We explained that we were a special Island located in the English Channel and the flag represented our unique position”.
Both Denise and Adrian are members of the Vectis Sunrise Rotary club based in Newport and took the opportunity to leave a club banner attached to the iconic sign in this world renowned location.
Adrian is beginning to make a habit of this as he travels overseas for the charity, having done a similar thing at Niagara Falls just a few months ago.
Adrian added:
“I do not have a bucket list but I do have a fly it list”.
