Carisbrooke Castle’s walled garden has been listed as the second most popular in the United Kingdom by TV and podcast maker, History Hit.
The Princess Beatrice garden has grabbed its spot on the list after Instagram data was collated and published. The garden has successfully fought off gardens in London, Dover, and Worcester to gain its place.
Princess Beatrice became Governor of the Isle of Wight in 1896 following the death of her husband, Prince Henry of Battenberg, who had previously held the position. Following her appointment as Governor, she undertook several renovations at Carisbrooke Castle and began to cultivate her own private garden.
Beatrice’s garden was the inspiration for the current garden which was installed in 2009 by award-winning garden designer Chris Beardshaw.
With a fountain in its center, the garden can be enjoyed both on the ground or from above on the wall walk, where its intriguing design becomes even more apparent.
