The Isle of Wight Centre of the Caravan and Motorhome Club has handed over a cheque for £827.66 to the local Stroke Association.
Each year, members of the club nominate and select a charity for the coming year. For 2019 it was proposed by Mike and Lyn Bonner that the charity should be the IOW Stroke Association. Mike and Lyn chose the charity as Lyn had benefited greatly from the support of the association following a stroke a few years earlier.
Fundraising events began with the usual January raffle and plans were going well, however, during the 43rd birthday rally in May, Mike unexpectedly collapsed following a stroke and subsequently passed away.
Members rallied round and following 2019’s fundraising efforts a cheque for £827.66 was handed over to the Stroke Association at this year’s AGM earlier in October.
Martyn, one of Mike and Lyn’s sons, has stepped up to help Lyn on a day to day basis and they are now both enjoying being members of the Isle of Wight Centre and join in as many rallies as possible.
