A car has been shunted through a garden wall with force by another vehicle in an early morning collision on the outskirts of Newport, caused by blinding sunlight.
Police, paramedics and firefighters are all on scene at Staplers Road, between the gyratory and Landscape Lane, where a rear-end collision has forced a car through a wall into the front garden of a residential property this morning (Sunday).
The crash, which happened just before 07:00, has involved a Renault Captur and a Citroen C4 Picasso.
Island Echo understands the Citroen driver had pulled over to the side of the road due to being blinded by the sunrise, before the Renault driver suffered the same situation – ploughing straight into the rear of the ‘invisible’ C4 Picasso.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander on scene with those involved being checked over by paramedics.
1 fire appliance from Newport has been mobilised in the interests of safety, but no persons are trapped.
Staplers Road is currently closed for a short section between the gyratory and the junction with Landscape Lane, with all traffic being diverted via Long Lane.
UPDATE @ 07:57 – Recovery of both vehicles is underway with the road expected to reopen within the next hour.
Those involved have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further checks. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been sustained.

Wow,.. never seen sunshine before when driving…. (not exactly a rare occasion these days)
it seems that the driver of the Citroen did exactly what is required by the Highway code, in that situation.
“Rule 93 specifically states that if a driver is dazzled, they should slow down and stop if necessary”
but the driver of the Renault, didn’t….
no excuse…
It’s the Isle of Wight, motorists don’t understand
the meaning of the words Slow Down!
