The ‘technical closure’ of an Island sixth form is likely to receive Cabinet support next week, following a 4-week consultation.
A report recommending the removal of the sixth form provision at Carisbrooke College will be considered by councillors next Thursday (16th December).
The council has said the proposal is a ‘paper exercise’ to reflect the current arrangement which has been in place since September 2016, and pupils will not be affected.
A consultation was held between 28th September and 9th November and no representations were received.
Councillor Debbie Andre, Cabinet member for education and lifelong skills, said:
“This is the removal of a school sixth form that has no pupils and exists on paper alone.
“Since 2016, all post-16 pupils at Carisbrooke College have been registered under its sister school, Medina College, with strong sixth form provision being provided at the Island VI Form, Newport.
“This will not change in anyway — there would be no detrimental impact on students or staff.”
