Residents in large areas of Cowes and East Cowes are without water following a burst water main this evening (Tuesday).
The main, located near the main Cowes to Newport road, supplies several areas of the town, with residents in areas such as Love Lane, Mill Hill Road, Newport Road and Nodes Road amongst those experiencing loss of pressure and discolouration.
Issues have also been reported on Baring Road, illustrating the potential size of the disruption.
Southern Water says it is aware of the issue and has assigned a work crew to rectify the burst main.
The water company has estimated that supplies should return to normal within 3 hours.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – Island Echo has been contacted by East Cowes residents who are also experiencing issues with their water supply.
Hawthorn Meadows, Whippingham Heights, and Alverstone Road are amongst the areas affected.
It’s believed that the 2 incidents may be connected.
UPDATE @ 19:17 – The size of the disruption is now becoming evident as more and more residents in Cowes and East Cowes note lower pressure and discoloured water. Areas furthest from the main’s position near Cowes Road are reporting almost no water from taps at all.
Southern Water is yet to issue a further update.
UPDATE @ 21:55 – Having initially announced that repairs would take 3 hours to complete, Southern Water has now announced delays to the repairs.
The company says that due to the complexity of the repairs needed to fix the main, the remedial works will take longer to complete.
Residents can expect a further update by 23:30. It is not yet clear if any arrangements for extra support for those without water are being put in to place.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 10:00 – Although the burst at Cowes has been resolved, a secondary burst has been located in the Staplers area of Newport.
Customers are still facing disruption to the water supply, with no estimated time of completion for the required repairs.

It’s effecting us here too & we’re off of Park Road.

Isn’t that the new main that was the subject of the months of road closure at Somerton a few years ago ?

St Faiths Road very low pressure, bit ironic as not far from where the water resevoir used to be, progress I suppose!
Low pressure on Old Road in East Cowes.
As more homes are built, water companies have to raise the pressure in the mains to keep all extra homes supplied.
This cracks old pipe, so expect much more as the Island is built to ruination.
No water in Worsley Road, Gurnard Village.. 🙁
you will always get this with Southern Water their main concern is profit and dividend share out , Southern Water will do a repair only and will not invest to renew the whole pipe ,so we get road closures after road closures. With more and more houses being contructed Southern Water will not invest in new infrastructure for the future.
Is it safe to bath in ? Mine’s brown in St Andrew’s Street.
Very little water in gurnard crippling from taps and no pressure.
Northwood, Nodes Road no water at all !
That’s great of them to let us know now when all shops in cowes has shut for night, thankfully we have some limited bottled water at home, hope everyone else has enough too!?
ALDI’S is open till 10pm for future reference .
I don’t think it was s planned thing !
I know it is a nuisance but think of the men who have to try and fix it in this weather.
That’s their job it’s what they get paid for. How about all the other people who have to work in bad weather
What a useless comment from Steve.
Im a roofer and have many times been on a roof in the pouring rain to stop bad leaks ……i guess we’ll just sit in the van in future watch a house flood then repair it when the sun is all warm and shiny
Uh oh, look out for all those panic buyers, they will need petrol to go and panic buy water bottles, disaster. We are all doomed.
