Former Christ the King College student Angus Bellamy described himself as being proud and honoured to have been selected for the Royal Navy party that transported Her Majesty the Queen on her final journey to and from Westminster Abbey at her state funeral on Monday (19th September).
20-year-old Angus went to the Military Preparation College for Training in Ryde. He joined the navy on 14th February this year and has completed his phase 1 training.
Angus is now stationed at HMS Collingwood, where he is training to become a Navy Technician. His ambition is to travel the world while working.
Angus told Island Echo:
“My role on the day was to be part of the state ceremonial gun carriage, where we had to pull Her Majesty through London. It made me feel honoured and proud to be British. The moment in itself was quite surreal, as I have never done anything like it before.
“My Mum, Dad, girlfriend and sisters were incredibly proud of me, and they said they were all in tears watching it live on TV. Being able to be part of something memorable so early in my career has made my family all feel so pleased, as the whole Island has reached out to them, all expressing how amazing it was.
“We did rehearsals throughout the week of mourning coming up to the event. There were no hitches; it all went to plan.”
Angus Bellamy’s participation in the state funeral of Her Majesty the Queen is much appreciated on the Island. The Isle of Wight has many royal connections, especially with another former monarch – Queen Victoria – whose favourite residence was at Osborne House in East Cowes.
It has been a great honour for Angus to represent our small corner of the United Kingdom at this sad but historic occasion.

What an honour. Seeing a twenty-year-old lad display respect, ownership, and tenacity is excellent. Maybe other peers can look at this lad and recognise that you can achieve and become someone. Instead of a neanderthal existence which is commonplace with so many teenagers. I bet your mum & dad are SO proud, representing Her Majesty.

That’s not reason to make a personal attack on a young man who did his duty and, like all the military on parade, represented our country to the highest standard. Those service men and women have singed up to protect us, and others, when needed. And they will. Would you have said that to his face? Our son was also on duty at the funeral. There was a lot more to it than you saw on TV. Just getting to wear those uniforms requires a level of determination and sheer guts that is beyond most people, including those who hide behind a keyboard to hurl insults.
If it had been up to me a hole would have been dug asap,& she would have been bunged in it Friday morning,so saving a lot of money, which could have gone to the NHS
The Royal Family cost atm on average £500m a year including buildings etc.
The Royal Family bring in on average £2.5b
per year,I bet some of that does go to the NHS.

My son who is also in the Royal navy was there, he was one of the officers in charge of the ratings. Also very proud of him, the young lad and all who were doing their bit
