Following their third place success in the Regional Finals of the Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, Shanklin Town Brass Band have been invited to compete in the National Finals at Cheltenham in September.
Shanklin Town Brass Band will become the first ever Island band to achieve this distinction and will have the opportunity to compete against bands from all over Great Britain.
The visit to Cheltenham will incur coach and ferry travel costs, plus the expense of a 2-night stay near to Cheltenham itself. This is necessary so that the band can have a pre-competition rehearsal on the Friday before competing at some point during the Saturday.
Shanklin Hotel and Accommodation Association (SHAA) have donated £500 towards the band’s travel expenses to enable them to take part in this prestigious competition.
Sally Beston, Chairman of SHAA said:
“Every year SHAA donates small amounts to a number of local causes and a larger amount to our ‘charity of the year’. We are really pleased to have Shanklin Town Brass Band as this years charity. They show commitment, talent and hard work, which has now paid off with obtaining 3rd place in the regional finals and we are more than happy to help with their costs in attending the National Finals in Cheltenham.
“We wish them good luck for the competition and for the future”.
During the national competition in September the band has been invited to use the practice room of the Flowers Brass Band, who are one of the country’s top bands.
