The body of a man – believed to be in his 60s – has been discovered in unexplained circumstances in a former shop in central Newport today (Wednesday).
A member of the public raised concerns with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary relating to a property on Carisbrooke Road, near the top of the High Street, at 11:48 this morning.
Officers carried out enquiries and had to force entry to the address due to concerns for the welfare of anyone inside.
The body of a man was subsequently discovered.
His death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious at this time.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner in due course.
