Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has given his support for Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt to become Britain’s next Prime Minister.
Bob claimed Ms Mordaunt is “the best person” for the role. Speaking to Sam Coates of Sky News, the Isle of Wight MP believes she has the “greater resonance” among constituents.
Mr Seely backed Ms Mordaunt in the early rounds of the leadership contest after Mr Johnson had left his post in the summer. When she was knocked out, he then transferred his support to Liz Truss.
Mr Seely was asked by Sky’s Sam Coates if he supported the return of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister. He replied:
“I want us to go forward under Penny. I would respect the choice that we collectively make.”
In a statement issued this afternoon, Bob said:
“I’m sorry to see the Prime Minister go. She has done the honourable thing and acted in the national interest.
“I supported Penny Mordaunt in the summer, and I’ll support her in the coming election now, should she choose to stand. Penny is a Portsmouth MP and knows the Solent area, and indeed the Island, well. I hope Penny will win, but whoever wins, the Conservative Party must pull together for the sake of the country.
“I remain entirely focused on the Island. While the Prime Minister was making her resignation statement, I was speaking in the House of Commons to ensure Government agree minimum service levels to be applied to our cross-Solent ferries in upcoming legislation.
“I will continue to deliver a better deal for the Island, whatever comes.
“Working with others, we’ve got well over £120m of additional investment in the past few years. That includes a £48m investment in the NHS, around £50m for Island Line and Ryde railway pier, nearly £6m for a heavy lift ship crane at East Cowes to help Island shipbuilding, and £20m for Isle of Wight College to go from strength to strength.
“I also made sure that the Island was a priority funding area for the Arts Council, we’ve got a road policing unit back on the Island, and the Government accepted my suggestion that it establish an Island’s Forum to enable UK islands to have single voice with Government.
“In addition, working with the previous Council, we secured the future of shipbuilding on the Island by ensuring that the Council buy the Columbine ‘Union Jack’ building at a price it could afford.
“We’ve managed to deliver a great deal to the Island, but there is always more to do, and I will keep on ensuring that we get a better deal for the Island.”

Well we definitely know who will not get the job with our completely out of touch MP
Omg I was right backing Penny ,,,,,, Don’t do it penny he stabbed Boris in the back ….
Backed liz Truss probably stabbed her in the back !!!!!!
Not worth getting the job he will stabbed anyone eventually !!!!!!
Is Bob back from Ukraine.
Another useless ******
minimum service levels to be applied to our cross-Solent ferries in upcoming legislation.
which ultimately means higher ticket prices for running empty boats just to satisfy pointless government interference in private enterprise.
if the government apply anything it will cost – and the islands taxpayers will foot the bill in a “ferry subsidy levy” or any other name the state dreams up to rinse islanders of their hard earned cash
mordaunt – ha – she has an atrocious work record and is noticeably absent from most of what she does – then again seldom seen seely and missing mordaunt is about right
Bob do you have lots of straw’s of different sizes and who you pull the short straw for you back that person? You are like the weather. Just give up please the conservatives have lost the country so you may as well jog on. Or are you waiting to see what party to move too in a few years time.
Yet they’ll still get a landslide on the island!
she’s lower league, a bit like the football team!
When will Tories admit they are ****ing useless!
Just have a general election- everyone fed up of the Tory shannegins party
Unfortunately all parties are the same. Wouldn’t trust anyone. Tory’s,Labour,Liberals all have the same agenda – promise the earth to get in then break the promises as and when. Pathological liars everyone of them in Parliament. When the cameras stop rolling off they all go to the taxpayers funded bar/restaurant and back slap each other having a laugh at our expense. Bring back Guy Fawkes.
Spot on. I haven’t wasted any of my time voting for years now. The days when different parties stood for different classes of the population are long gone. As you say, all politicians of all parties are pathological liars. Anyone who thinks that a different political party will be any different or better for the country is simply deluding themselves. Better to stay at home on voting day, don’t give them a mandate to rip us all off.
Bob backed truss last time and look what happened there!
Backing another loser Bob? Top sausage!
Well he’s a tory knobhead so his choice will be totally out of touch with the British public .
Looks like he’s been promised a job if she’s sucessful (please not) – Rishi is the one, he did forecast this mess.
stop the globalists, vote reform…
