Although the number of new COVID-19 cases on the Isle of Wight is levelling out, there has been a further 4 confirmed cases recorded locally according to new data.
161 Islanders have now been confirmed as having coronavirus according to Public Health England – a rise of 4 from 157 on Wednesday.
Despite increased testing through the facility at Medina and home testing via the NHSX app, the number of cases on the Island has not skyrocketed. The Island still has one of the lowest infection rates in the country (113.8).
The latest information from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust confirms 25 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital, although this number has not been updated in some time. It appears the NHS Trust are no longer issuing statements on each death.

32 deaths on the Island from approximately 141.000 residents, Newzealand 5.000.000. population and 21 deaths.
We are told the Island has a relatively low death rate from the rest of the UK.
I wish we were in the same place as Newzealand.
Can’t really compare to New Zealand as we are more densely populated here. My brother lives there and in xchurch they are very sparsely populated
Hi Pjw, Christchurch is an urban city of 400,000 people. So yes, you can compare and be saying wtf. Google an image and you’ll see.
They are more choosy who they allow in than the UK, and they don’t have countless unknown people floating across who could easily bring such into the country and spread it unknown to authorities to the wider public.
New Zealand is reputed to be the place where the rich and famous will go, should the world go into melt down, many have supposedly bought large homes there as deemed a safe place to be.
Thanks to successive Governments here in the UK, we can hardly say that about much of the UK, and that is why real Islanders are so against more development, as it is not for their offspring but likely much for the overspill from areas that these people have breed to overcrowding and now wish to ruin here.
Any corrupt council will not refuse if they do well from the deal and don’t ever have to live anywhere near the areas they will ruin for others.
We all know homes are needed, but when we see high immigration into the UK still happening when jobs will be scarce it is madness to build ever more. Whilst immigration is not a direct large issue for the Island, many who do come here say they do to escape the towns and places they now say are unrecognisable to them.
The Islanders should be allowed to have a REAL say in what is built here, as they ‘pretend’ we have, as in Ryde town council meeting about Pennyfeathers, but the main council and their developers ‘friends’ work together to over ride what the public want, so there is ‘no say’ unless the councils wishes and the public coincide, which is rare.
All true, more people mean more strain on housing, jobs, benefits, NHS, quality of life.
However, now you have posted your opinion it won’t be long before the race card comes out again..
Clare.
Sad the race card is used, as we all see that many wonderful people from ever nation treat us in our hospitals as doctors, surgeons, consultants etc.
Few would ever complain about decent, clever people arriving. The problem is the few good are like our own people becoming outnumbered by the low life as in nasty people.
Even wonderfully nice people if they cannot support themselves still cost the country, and take up a home, add to overcrowding, pollution, land fill, parking, etc.
Truth is, if all the genuine British ex pats all came back, it would create the same problems, but the difference is one could say that without the hate being thrown at you.
I like all nice people and dislike all horrid, yet don’t mean I think filling a small county up with millions of either is a great idea, especially though the former.
Well said Jai..
You are right Clare, all removed, despite being the truth. Clearly dangerous times we live in now.
Men may have bigger brain’s but women us there’s in a better way, mens brains are mostly between their legs.
Sadly Clare, you lost the impact of your comment about women using their brains in a better way, by spelling the word use incorrectly.
Men don’t have bigger brains Ha!! They are just arrogant idiots most of the time!
What is between their legs is also irrelevant. This nobhead isn’t worth the ink!
It’s not the death rate that they are saying is low (it’s not) it’s the number of infections they are saying is low
Vietnam, a country of 92 million people that shares a border with China, where the outbreak began, had only 271 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and zero reported deaths as of May 5.
excerpt from news article on healthline website.
The success of Vietnam, South Africa, and New Zealand comes from the top down, says Dr. Dan B. Fagbuyi, an emergency response physician and former biodefense public health adviser with the Obama administration.
“Exceptional leadership and universal buy-in by their citizens in addition to transparent and candid discussions on the threat — i.e., crisis communication [made the difference],” Fagbuyi told Healthline.
“They deftly and decisively responded to the threat by aggressively locking down their borders and performing extensive contact tracing. In essence, they instituted basic and important but aggressive public health measures,” he said
New Zealand are just delaying the inevitable. The PM should make the most of the praise because it won’t last. Never get a woman to do a mans job.
That is very low for a dense populated country
I wish I was in Isle of Wight
Clare there has been 32 deaths in hospital , and another 14 in the community , 46 on the iow . You are right that’s a lot compared to the population of new Zealand .
You lot really need to get your statistics right before you compare us to New Zealand you mongs 😉
All this got to practise social distant with a possibility of fines if you don’t, along with the possible spread of Covid ,it’s about time those in full view of the public working on the roads at st marys took this message to heart .
All the preaching by the bosses were doing this were doing that ,wheres the management when the workers are so not adhering to the rules, come on lads keep ya distance and keep safe .
If you can’t keep the 2 meter rule don’t do the task .
Maybe when shit hits the fan and HSE get involved people will listen
What’s up with what only looking says, they are totally correct.
Police have no powers to enforce the 2 metre rule. They cannot give fines out.
public health england have said that 2 metres is an advisory and not a rule. Police cannot enforce it.
This is correct, the 2 metre rule is no longer enforceable and fines cannot be handed out by the Police. PLEASE NOTE EVERYONE if people don’t adhere to the 2 metre rule the only thing that will be handed out is a POSSIBLE DEATH SENTENCE! This virus has not gone away, be careful.
stop being so dramatic opinions matter.
what you think 2 metres is safe, but 1.9m means certain death – idiot.
I agree Opinions Matter. The pavements are often so narrow it is impossible to maintain any distance when people just keep cming towards you and they are right in middle of pavement. I am constantly having to cross to other side of street and often have to walk in the road to avoid groups of people walking in middle of pavement , with no attempt to move aside for me, when I cannot move very quickly and just why can’t people be more considerate, instead of this continual ‘not my problem, it’s yours’, attitude? So selfish.
Just let us all get back to some normality and try to save the economy, We will all get this virus at some stage fact !!!!
The infection rate is low because so many people have been waiting so long for results! There is no point having an app and testing if you don’t get results back in a timely manner.
COVID 19 is still spreading here. Personally, I think relaxing the lockdown has been 3weeks too soon. Time will tell. Stay safe everyone and continue to do everything we have been doing since lockdown started, including HAND WASHING, VERY IMPORTANT
My wife had her result within 36 hours of being picked up. You don’t know what you are talking about
Still waiting for my results been over a week now
I would have thought positive cases would be informed first, negative last, stop worrying.
My friend has now been waiting 13 days! When she rang up she was told that it looks like a batch from the Island may have been lost as she was the 3rd person who was tested that day with no result. She was advised to have another test.
Yes there needs to be more clarity on the current situation. We should be kept up to date with the latest figures I agree. I don’t, however think we should all be going out celebrating because this virus will not just go away.
All those out protesting against their freedom being taken from them tomorrow should be ashamed of themselves. Selfish and disgusting and totally in denial is all I can say.
These beings have not had anyone close affected obviously so they need educating.
But sadly pork cannot be educated as the saying goes! Pigs though are indeed far more intelligent than these numbskulls!
Completely agree, Sammy. So many selfish people. If this virus was mainly affecting young people, it would be a vastly different story. Apparently Spanish flu killed loads of old people, then went away and came back and killed loads of young people, how does anyone know this one won’t be the same pattern? It’s only just arrived after all. Seeing as it’s going to be around for years.
