UPDATED: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has this afternoon (Wednesday) landed on the cliff top at Lake to assist the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service with a patient who has fallen from a ladder.
The red and yellow helicopter has landed at Lake Cliff Gardens beside the A3055 Sandown Road at Skew Bridge, which has resulted in the traffic being stopped in both directions.
Island Echo understands a gentleman has fallen from a ladder whilst washing windows outside a detached property close to Cemetery Road, leading to the the assistance of the medical team on board the air ambulance – which includes a doctor – being requested.
Details of the man’s injuries are currently unavailable, however they are believed to be serious. Paramedics were called to the scene at 12:50.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, with traffic reported to be heavy in Shanklin.
UPDATE @ 14:10 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has taken off from the scene, airlifting the injured man aged in his 40’s to Southampton General Hospital.
The main road between Sandown and Lake is about to reopen in both directions, however several readers are reporting that traffic remains heavy in The Bay area.
