VIDEO: A WEEK UNTIL FREEDOM DAY: ESCAPE THE CROWDS AND FIND YOUR SPACE SAY IW COUNCIL

With just a week to go until all coronavirus restrictions are lifted, the Isle of Wight Council is encouraging people to avoid popular tourist spots and instead find space in places off the beaten track.

The Council has put together a list of hidden – and not so hidden – spots on the Island where you can #findyourspace. On the list are places that are easy to get to, with parking or bus stops nearby, and will hardly ever get crowded.

Perhaps you will take a wander through the magical woodlands at Bonchurch Landslip this summer, or try the new willow maze at Golden Hill Country Park.

Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, portfolio holder for tourism, said:

“The Island is full of beautiful countryside and beaches, but some are busier than others. Everyone on the Island has their favourite places, and now’s a great time to try some new ones.

“If friends and family come to see you this year, tell them not to follow the crowds, get out to somewhere spacious! We all need to look out for each other this summer. Finding somewhere off the beaten track to meet up is a great way to keep the Island safe.

“You can expand the council’s list of special places with lots of space – can you think of a place you might want to add on?

There is also a useful list of socially distanced activities, with an assumption you are staying in Ventnor, here https://www.ventnorselfcatering.co.uk/isle-of-wight/minimum-social-contact/

Don’t worry. I’m sure lockdown 4 is just weeks away. It’s already booked in, the big hoax won’t fail.

How are people who can’t have the vaccine supposed to protect themselves? What the hell is wrong with this ridiculously irresponsible and uncaring government? I understood that in Wales, NI and Scotland, the wearing of masks in public places like shops and transport is still compulsory why not England? It’s like an experiment and we are guinea pigs, see who gets it and see what the outcome is, And if they honestly think that everybody will do the ‘right’ thing and think of others, too many have never done so anyway and will be even less likely to do now they’ve been given the go ahead to do as they like.
