A Sandown man who had weed in his jacket pocket when he arrested by Police has been fined £80.
Wayne Mitchell, 32, of Leed Street in Sandown pleaded guilty to 1 count of possession of a controlled drug of Class B when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 4th October, Mitchell was arrested by Police for an unrelated matter.
When detained by officers, he was searched and a small amount of cannabis was found in the pocket of his jacket.
He wasn’t interviewed by Police.
Defending, Henry Farley said that his client was not heavily convicted and that he had worked as a scaffolder until an accident at work rendered him unable to do his job.
Mitchell was handed a fine of £80, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge fee.

Sounds like the defence counsel was on the same stuff. Although unfortunate he was not working but what’s that got to do with the price of fish? Clearly a druggie and that is all there is to it. Own it and stop making excuses.
Well this fine of £80 is really going to to deter this guy from using or carrying weed in the future…….. NOT!!!!!
Another, pathetic, waste of time ‘punishment’ Ha Ha, given out by an even more pathetic Magistrate.
Come on then, genius.
What sentence do you think would be appropriate and, more importantly, what do you think would happen happen if this “pathetic Magistrate” handed that sentence down.
If you feel so strongly about it, why don’t you apply to become one. No former experience needed and full training is given. Magistrates are volunteers and don’t get paid, but you will get a small allowance.
Time to put your money where you overly large mouth is:

Mayhaps you should change your user name to ‘Spliffy’
Me thinks you protest too loudly.
So an illegal immigrant supporter and accepting illegal drug use
I assume YOU can’t, thankfully become a Magistrate, likely as you are ‘overqualified’
The requirements can be found here:
https://www.gov.uk/become-magistrate/can-you-be-a-magistrate
I tick all of the boxes, but knowing the kind of poorly considered gibberish you tend to post you are almost certainly going to fail on the requirements for maturity and logical thinking.
Tell you what, give it a go and let us all know how you get on.
It’s illegal so fine them £1000 that will put them off doing it again
its a plant not a drug..it was growing on earth for thousands of years bringing food, paper, medicine, rope and clothing, funny how its bad now but good for humanity back then..is it because the government cannot tax it or control its use against the government sanctioned, highly addictive, manufactured, licenced, taxable alchohol that kills thousands each year?? and a fine if you attempt to make it yourself..Cannabis is a plant, or has someone sythesized it and put it in a bottle? ..like stingers are plants. The only way cannabis would kill you would be if a ton of it fell on you, stop criminalising people and decriminalise this plant, its so ridiculous and blatently political, ok to use in the USA and other countries why not here?????
Its active component THC is. Just as alcohol is the active component in beer, caffeine in coffee and tea, and nicotine in tobacco.
Actually synthetic cannabinoids do exit, and were legal until 2016. You may remember “legal highs” being in the news. Spice (named after the substance in Dune) was probably the most well known.
Frankly alcohol causes far more harm and suffering that cannabis, so it is ludicrous that alcohol is legal while cannabis is not. The main harm from cannabis comes from the associated criminal drug trade. Legalising it would remove that.
Check out DuPont in the US lobbying heavily against hemp, the law that followed was the 1937 marijuana tax prohibiting unauthorised use in the USA by likening it to drug use and reefer madness..it was to promote synthetic fibre over traditional hemp..it was cleverly done marketing hit preying on fear rather than reality, early psyops..so well done that coffee was nearly outlawed, caffeine was viewed as dangerous and likened to cannabis but then they realised banning it would affect them having a refreshing ground brew in the morning, 100%…funny how its all bollocks what we are told and nobody researches anything anymore isn’t it..yes legalise cannabis, it was only made illegal by DuPont.
That errm, interesting, post makes it clear that cannabis has had absolutely no effect on your mental health.
Nope, no effect at all…….
This guy is a most horrible man – he is on a road to destruction and i will laugh at his fate – note the name ! He’ll be back on these pages very soon
