Nurses in the Pre-Assessment and Admissions Unit (PAAU) of St Mary’s Hospital no longer have to share phlebotomy trolleys, thanks to a grant from the Friends of St Mary’s.
As a result of the Friends agreeing to provide £3,122, each of the unit’s 7 rooms now has its own brand new slim-line phlebotomy trolley containing everything needed to take blood samples and carry out other tests.
The unit assesses would-be patients’ fitness for surgery and/or anaesthetic.
Sister Lesley-Anne Moody says:
“We previously had only 3 rather inadequate trolleys which had to be shared around.
“Now nurses in every room can access everything there and then.”
