An East Cowes man who drove along Military Road at 85mph has been handed a 6-month driving ban, despite saying that if he lost his licence he wouldn’t be able to take his pregnant girlfriend to the hospital.
Owen Moore, 23, of York Avenue in East Cowes admitted traveling along Military Road at 85mph, some 25mph more than the 60mph limit on 12th December 2021.
The 23-year-old already had 11 points on his licence at the time of the incident in 2021 having been given a hefty points tally for driving without due care and attention in 2021 after an incident that occurred at a set of temporary traffic lights.
Defending himself, Moore said that there was no real explanation for why he was going so fast and that since the incident the number of points on his licence has been reduced to 3.
He also added that his girlfriend was heavily pregnant and that was his licence to be taken away, she would have difficulty getting to St Mary’s Hospital.
Owen Moore was handed 5 points on his licence and disqualified from driving for 6 months. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £230, costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34.
Not defending him at all, but why does he get a six month ban for doing 85 in a 60 limit when a few days ago a lad only got a three month ban for doing 73 in a 30 limit? Which was worse, the guy speeding on a long, deserted country road or the one speeding through a heavily built up area? Stupid magistrates again…

He didn’t get the ban just for speeding! It was the points on his licence. To get at least 16 points at only 23, I’m surprised it wasn’t longer plus an extended test

Sound like he will be a wonderful father and will fit in well with todays Chav society. Sadly the child will likely grow up even worse, and likely rarely see its father yet plenty of uncles.
