Islanders will be unable to visit Newport Police Station to report a crime or to undertake other tasks for a period of 4 days, starting next week.
Hampshire Constabulary says that on Monday (24th May), the front counter at Newport Police Station will be closed for 4 days to allow for some essential maintenance.
The counter will then re-open again for normal business on Friday 28th May.
During the period Monday 24th May – Thursday 27th May, members of the public are encouraged to report non-emergencies to Police on 101 or via our online ‘Report’ tool on the website: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/.
Unlike in previous years, Ryde Police Station’s front office will not be re-opening as an alternative point of contact.

All the scum will be having a field day for the next 4 days. How irresponsible to disclose such information
What perfect Timing . Yea shut the police station just as all the pubs and clubs let rip. You couldn’t make it up .
Fingers crossed everyone behaves themselves.
Gaz , the police station closes at 6pm anyway. When I was a nipper police stations stayed open 24/7
Oh dear, will anyone notice?
Why can’t a temporary office be set up in some other building, the old ‘lost property office’ would do. It’s just pathetic to say we’re closed.
‘Please note that all criminal activity has been temporarily suspended. Please do not commit crime until our police stn has been painted. Thank you for your cooperation. The Old Bill ‘
I know we all like a moan, but if people actually read the article they’d see that the police station isn’t closing, it’s just the front office. So, really, it doesn’t affect that many people and I can’t honestly see criminals ‘having a field day’ because the front office of the police station is closed for four days or are you seriously suggesting that all police work will stop because of this? Come on, how many of us would wander along to the police station to report a crime? That’s why we have phones and emergency numbers to ring.
