100 people have now died with COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight since the start of the pandemic – a milestone no one wanted to reach.
Latest figures from NHS England reveal that 3 more Islanders have died after testing positive for the coronavirus, with all 3 deaths being listed as occurring at St Mary’s Hospital on 3rd December.
It takes the total number of people to have died at St Mary’s, with the virus, to 51. A total of 51 people have now died in hospital, alongside 45 deaths in care homes, 3 at home and 1 in the hospice.
Last month 5 people died from COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight, which is more than the months of September and October combined. Sadly, December could see that monthly number rise above 5.
The number of cases of COVID-19 on the Island is expected to reach 1,000 in the next few days.
Likely be worst in mid January, once the Christmas and New Year sales till’s are filled, then, and ONLY then, will the true numbers be released.
Get real. How many have died from other causes? Do you expect everyone to go bankrupt to see if the death rates dont rise?

As an old gentleman said to me last week in town, ” people today are ridiculous” ” I’ve been through the war and people didn’t act like this” . I thought in the war, people were fitting gas masks on themselves and their children to prevent death or injury from poison gas.
People were putting black outs up, frightened of being seen by enemy bombers.
I also know of people hiding in shelters in their garden, or under the stairs, or under a metal table in the kitchen.
PEOPLE DID act exactly ‘like this’.
And back then the enemy could be ‘seen’ and not lurking within, whereby a close friend, a lover, your partner or both could kill you with an invisible breath.
No! What people liked was everybody sticking together ,all in the same boat, fighting a REAL enemy that killed everyone, not an average age of 82 with underlying health issues. You need to wake up ,or the life you knew will be gone forever!!
Your the one that needs to wake up ‘Mr Justice’. It’s not just about the deaths. Which are currently over 60,000, people who will not be with their families at Christmas. It’s also the lasting affects of having had covid. It attacks the lungs. We are going to see in the decades to come millions of people having to deal with damaged to the lungs. Also, the death rate we have, is WITH RESTRICTIONS. Imagine how bad it could be if we acted like the Americans and ignored it. You like to compare it against other viruses but these others have never had lock downs and restrictions to stem their spread. Covid is worst and it is more deadly. It is our efforts that are keeping covidiots like yourself safe.

Doesn’t mean they died of COVID 19 they may have just had it a lot of people have been dying of cancer and other conditions and they put it down as COVID so don’t be too sure this island echo even know what they talk about best to read the county press if you ask me

I prefer to be safe than a covidiot and pass it to my parents and kill them. It is simple stuff and basic consideration for others. Not sure why you find it so hard to understand. Wash your hands, keep your distance, wear a mask when you can’t keep your distance. It is simple things like this that will keep the pubs and restaurants open. It is people like you that are driving infection rates up and causing the closure of businesses.
