A trainee army vehicle mechanic has been banned from driving for 3 months after he was caught speeding through the 30mph zone of Fairlee Road in Newport at a whopping 73mph.
Dylan Ratje-Irving, 19, of The Finches in Carisbrooke, admitted speeding – exceeding 30mph on a restricted road when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Friday).
The 19-year-old was caught going more than twice the limit by Police officers, who used a speed gun to catch him whilst on patrol on 14th December 2021. He had only had his licence 3 months at the time of the offence, which took place at 22:30 at night.
Ratje-Irving told the court that if he were to lose his licence then it would affect his job as a trainee vehicle mechanic in the British Army. He also stated that he had grown a lot and matured since the incident some 13 months ago.
Magistrates handed the 19-year-old a 3-month driving ban with chair of the bench Fay Seabourne saying he was “grossly in excess of the speed limit”.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £323, costs of £40 and a surcharge fee of £42.

THIS is how people get killed..
3 month ban is too lenient for such speeding.
Probably because he’s a trainee vehicle mechanic for the British Army
Yes it is because he has a job ,unlike all the other drunk and druggie drivers ,yes he was driving to fast but he’s paid the price and he not on the dole think about it
So because he has a job he’s exempt from being appropriately prosecuted? I take it you know this idiot personally which is why you’re being defensive of his idiotic actions.
Like to know why it took 13 months for this to come to court!
Licence removed for anyone who gains 6 points in the first 2 years of holding a licence, do we need people like that in our forces?
Why has it taken 13 months to put this before a court?
3 month ban is enough. Gives him short sharp shock but hopefully not ruin his chances in the army or whatever career. We all make mistakes in life, it’s how we react to them is the key.
This dick deserves more than a 3 month ban. No compassion or thought for human life these youngsters. If he wanted to kill himself driving like that…but he could have killed INNOCENT PEOPLE. This sentence is just not enough. These island judges need sacking, they are a disgrace to the British Justice System.
Why do those speeds in the first place knowing it can effect someones carear
Why did it take a year for it to come to court?
If anything went wrong ha would have totally lost it with so little experience.
No excuse for driving that fast. No excuse for such a lenient sentence.
Why did it take 13 months to get into court. Did they have a chat with the armed forces before hand.
SCUM!
What it is to have friends in the Lodge.
Wish I knew the funny handshake to use!
Could have been in the old 40mph limit heading out of Newport on a deserted Rd..
Look at all the experts on here!
If you are going to insult somebody’s mum, who is not in any way relevant to this post, at least spell it correctly… it’s course not corse :)xo
Bet he gets round the island fast but not as fast as his mum does. Gunville bike!
