A 20-year-old man has been arrested, questioned and bailed in relation to a large-scale fight involving weapons that broke out after a boxing match in Newport at the weekend.
As first reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Staplers Road at 22:10 on Saturday night (3rd May) to reports of a number of individuals fighting in a car park.
It is said that a number of weapons – including knives and a hammer – were seen during the fight, which occurred following the conclusion of a local boxing match.
When Police arrived on scene, a 33-year-old man was found with serious head and chest injuries after allegedly being run over by an Audi car.
He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.
No arrests were immediately made, but Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 20-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of affray.
He has been bailed until August as investigations continue.
