2 new Men’s Sheds are set to open on the Isle of Wight soon, as part of the ongoing work by Age UK Isle of Wight and the Ageing Better Programme.
After the overwhelming success of an Acoustic Music Shed in Newport, which opened 18 months ago, a second music shed is set to open in Wootton Bridge, which will run on Friday afternoons from 14:00-16:00 at The Old School, New Road. Music is provided, as well as tea and coffee, for a fee of just £2.
In addition, a new Shed is being planned for the village of Brighstone, with an open event being held at 11:00 on Monday 11th June at Wilberforce Hall, enabling men in the area to go along and find out more about the new Shed. Refreshments will be provided.
Lois Prior, Age UK Isle of Wight’s Men In Sheds Coordinator commented:
“I am very pleased that we are able to further expand our number of Sheds on the island. Our Acoustic Music Shed in Newport has been so popular, but I am aware that evenings don’t suit everyone, and as the Newport music shed is almost full to bursting, a second daytime music shed is now being opened in order to meet demand.
“Creating a Men’s Shed in a rural area is a challenge; the potential number of older men is more limited, so finding a place that is suitable becomes more difficult. Brighstone Grange is keen to develop a Men’s Shed at their premises for the benefit of the local community, and its residents. We have worked in partnership in partnership with other organisations around the island to develop sheds in more places than perhaps we might have been able to do on our own, so for us, this is a fantastic opportunity to put a Men’s Shed in Brighstone.”
