Cowes Week continues to be a draw for sailors but now also cruisers, as 2 cruise ships will witness the racing next week.
First to call in Cowes on 1st August will be the returning Tradewind Voyages’ Golden Horizon – the largest square-rigged sailing ship in the world. Following her just 3 days later, on 4th August, will be Fred. Olsen’s Borealis. This new ship will be anchoring in the Solent on its inaugural season.
Golden Horizon is the world’s largest square-rigged sailing ship and will offer voyages with unique sustainability credentials when it sails east from September 2021. The 5-masted sailing cruise ship is 524 feet (162 metres) long and carries up to 272 passengers in luxurious accommodation with 159 crew.
Bearing a name that previously bestowed an Olsen-owned vessel in the 1940s, and inspires thoughts of the Aurora Borealis, the ship Borealis connects with and represents the cruise line’s founding family’s history and Norwegian heritage.
Cowes Harbour Commission is actively increasing the number of ships visiting Cowes in the coming years, raising the profile and increasing the interest in Cowes as a year-round global destination.
