A 19-year-old woman from Chale has been convicted of drug driving after she was stopped by Police simply because they noticed her ageing Citroen was missing a rear light.
Daisy Wylds, of The Terrace in Chale, pleaded guilty to 1 count of drug driving when she appeared in front of Magistrates today (Friday).
The court heard that on 6th July, Wylds was stopped by Police on Whitcombe Road in Carisbrooke after they noticed the rear light on her Citroen ZX was missing. At the roadside, Wylds completed a drugs wipe that tested positive for cannabis.
She was taken to Newport Police Station and a blood sample was taken that later came back positive for cannabis, reading 5.5ug/l – the legal limit is 2ug/l.
Defending Wylds, Barry Arnett said that the 19-year-old was a cannabis user as a result of mental health struggles – something she has since stopped. He also said that Wylds showed no signs of bad driving and that the student was set to lose her job at a local hotel due to the seasonal nature of her employment.
In a statement which Wylds read to the court herself, the 19-year-old said that she was glad this had happened at such a young age and that getting arrested has helped her turn things around and seek help regarding her mental health issues.
She was handed a 12 month driving disqualification. She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £48 surcharge fee.

I like driving in my car beep beep
Spanners close by any chance? Should never have dumped benefit dross in such a lovely old Island village
What a stupid thing to say, your opinion is that folk who live in social housing = drug users? You are an ignorant but total tosser.
Truth is hard to accept I know. I also know there are always exceptions.
But that is the issue, as they are ‘exceptions’
A quote from a madness song, I get the humor, sadly lost on the muppets.
It’s not quite a jaguar… . It’s a shitroen so I’ll just take drugs to compensate.
Cannabis will cause mental health problems rather than as a result of mental health problems…if you are mentally unwell you should not be driving a vehicle either. There is no excuse for drug driving period.
People driving around stoned on cannabis is quite common on the island unfortunately. Probably more common than drink driving.
What is becoming of this beautiful island.
Usual hard luck story
Just lucky the stupid b…. didn’t hit someone’s car with kids in it? Other people with serious mental health issues do not get behind the steering and drive whilst high on drugs! I’m so bored of all the excuses these idiots make.
Silly girl. Was it worth it? What an expensive joint huh. And you’ve lost your licence for a year. Way too much of this goes on now. Cannabis is NOT LEGAL and should not be smoked when intending to drive or ride a motorcycle. Wake-up!!!!!
Motorcycle? Do Citroen make motorcycles? What are you smoking?
DOH!!!! What you on mate……..read my comment again. I said cannabis should never be smoked when intending to drive a CAR or a ride a MOTORCYCLE.
Which part of this don’t you understand? LOL
Not just a ‘silly girl’ that is what you call an innocent or inexperienced person who makes a mistake.
Selfish b would be more fitting. The kid glove approach with such dregs help their cause into belittling the seriousness of their crimes.
Not really. She’s still smoking
One drag and they are over the limit for a week! The government changed the law and lowered the acceptable amount to legaly drive against a plethera of advise, slipped it through parliament and that is why so many cannabis ‘drug driving’ cases have arisen..seems odd how the youth dont want to drink anymore but prefer cannabis, look at the USA and Canada, but currently the governments main fun tax revenue is alchohol…when this plant is decriminalised and sold countrywide I bet the government will tax the hell out of it..look up how much cocaine you can legaly drive with and heroin, but cannabis is the most severe of all..why is that I wonder? It is a plant not a manufactured drug, the UK is the worlds biggest exporter of cannabis.
I have been looking for the smallest violin. To send her. But sadly I left somewhere before. When I was telling the court about my problem.
Another ‘generation entitled’ full of b.s excuses. As stated elsewhere cannabis will only worsen your mental health issues and if not, create them.
Go take long look in the mirror, and be truthful to one self.
all a show to lessen any punishment…..rolled out the mental health card…..conveniently said she smoked it because of mental issues, but stopped now….clearly wasn’t about mental issues if she could simply stop taking cannabis immediately…which I doubt….prob not the first time drug driving…just first time caught
No more driving, no buses in Chale, probably no job and some countries won’t let you in if you have a conviction for drug taking. Is it worth the risk?
