A 17-year-old youth has been charged with 5 offences following an attempted armed robbery in Sandown on Wednesday, as first reported by Island Echo.
Police rushed to Sandown Jewellers in the High Street at around 12:15 when members of the public detained a local male – who cannot be named for legal reasons – after he went into the jewellers armed with two knives.
The teenager has been charged with attempted robbery, assault, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and threatening a person with an offensive weapon. He has been remanded to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court next Wednesday (13th January) in relation to threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.
The unnamed boy will then appear at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday 5th February in relation to the 4 more serious offences.
