122 swimmers taking part in the 67th Pier 2 Pier swim safely completed the 1.8 mile course across The Bay between Sandown and Shanklin on Saturday.
Escorted by 23 kayakers, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, Ryde Inshore Rescue and Shanklin Deep Sea fishermen, the large group of swimmers battled against a fairly choppy sea to complete the challenge.
A total of 35 local swimmers took part in the annual event. The fastest Isle of Wight man was Robert Jackson in 36.20, whilst the fastest Isle of Wight lady was Amy Rickards in 37.08.
Lindsey Shelton was the fastest lady in the 50-64 age group and the most senior finisher was Marlins Swim Club’s Jenny Ball.
Such was the success of the event many swimmers wanted to enter next year’s event on the 1st August 2020 there and then.
Organisers have said a big ‘thank you’ to all those who assisted including Shanklin Rowing Club, IOW Kayak Club, Sculptured Glass, Ryde Beach Lifeguards, Tesco Ryde, Isle of Wight Council Parking Service and the team of Marlins members.
