Premier Inn Sandown will finally open its doors to paying guests at the end of this month, but only those staying for work, education or other legally permitted reasons will be admitted.
The 100-bedroom hotel on Sandown Esplanade was completed at the end of 2020, but COVID restrictions imposed on the country meant the doors couldn’t open.
It has now been confirmed that guests will be permitted to stay from Friday 26th February. In line with Government regulations and public health advice, the new hotel will open initially to guests
staying for work, education, or other legally permitted reasons.
The Cookhouse & Pub restaurant will also not be serving any food or drinks on opening in line with government guidelines.
Commenting on the opening, Niall Hyslop, New Openings Manager for Premier Inn Sandown Esplanade, said:
“While we’re opening our Sandown hotel in unusual circumstances due to coronavirus restrictions, we’re excited to be welcoming guests travelling for work, for education and for other legally permitted reasons at the end of the month.
“We are extremely grateful for the warm welcome we have received in Sandown since announcing our plans to open a new hotel and restaurant on the Esplanade. We are investing here for the longterm and are very much looking forward to becoming part of the community.
“Though we are opening our doors with a limited service in line with government restrictions, we expect the hotel and restaurant will be fully operational later this year. Premier Inn hotels in leisure locations like Sandown were very busy last summer and once we’re allowed to welcome leisure guests and open our restaurant fully in Sandown, we’re expecting strong demand from guests and local diners.”

Premier Inn Sandown is the third Premier Inn hotel on the Isle of Wight but the first to feature a Cookhouse & Pub restaurant.
Whitbread has been working with the local Job Centre Plus to recruit an initial 20 new jobs for the Sandown hotel. Further roles, including for the new restaurant, will be recruited once travel
restrictions are lifted and the hotel fully opens – with applications being accepted via the Job Centre Plus and online via the Whitbread Careers website.
Like the monstrosity going up at the old Wight City site this too looks like a prison.

Oh come on, your joking right?? It’s new and will bring money to Sandown which is much needed. Rather have this style of building than the ‘derelict’ eyesores that are further down on the left of the seafront. The owners need taking to court and served a ++++++++++ (not sure what) and ordered to clean up the site and start the renovations ASAP.
As of the untouchable type and a Cllr then unlikely any action will be taken against such.
And who is going to check all the guests that have booked in are there for ‘legally permitted reasons’?????? If they advertise they are open on their website were gonna have large numbers from the mainland coming over again…… End of February is too early, should be end of MARCH at the earliest.
Quite a few hotels are already open for this purpose & bookings are checked. Key workers still need to go to work.
No one is checking any holiday lets, 2 families arrived at Ventnor seafront on Friday.
I think it’s a brillant idea I come to isle of wight quite alot and this is brillant to have right on the beach I’ll be staying there once lockdown is over.
Don’t expect the red carpet treatment as we have had enough of visitors indirectly causing the spread of cv here.
Best wait a year or so. Give the place time to dry out. Bournemouth is nice and less druggy chavs, better roads, and fairer prices.
They have a large hospital, we don’t.
You would be welcome once lockdown is over, those who insist on coming during lockdown not so.
I think its the nicest looking building on the seafront, Sandown has become a complete dive over the years, I would be gutted if i arrived there having never been before. IOW tourism needs to take a leaf out of Torquays book.
