Poppy Appeal collectors Mick and Mavis Furnell have this year raised almost £10,000 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Between 31st October and 12th November the fundraising duo spent each day raising funds at Sainsbury’s Newport, selling a mix of Poppies and other merchandise. Between them they raised a staggering £9,951.
Simon Church, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight said:
“I’d like to thank our customers and colleagues for their continued support for the Poppy Appeal. We were really excited to welcome Mick and Mavis into our store once again.
“They have been with us many years now, volunteering their time for the RBL. Everyone knows Mick and Mavis, they both are such a wonderful couple and so well liked. A huge well done and thank you to them both.”
Sainsbury’s has supported The Royal British Legion for the last 22 years, and in 2015 customers and colleagues helped raise over £2 million for the charity.
