Michelle Moon, a Youth Project Manager from the West Wight Sports & Community Centre, has recently joined over 2,000 Duke of Edinburgh Award leaders at a special ceremony in London.

Last month Michelle made her way to Westminster Abbey after being personally invited to celebrate the amazing work that has been done in the past 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

HRH The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were all present at the ceremony, which was held on 24th November.

Michelle said:

“I couldn’t believe I was actually there and going to see them. Westminster Abbey is an amazing place with wonderful stain glass windows and architecture.  I felt so special being there”.

“The whole day was an amazing experience and I came out feeling even more inspired and motivated to continue all the work that I and my team do as Duke of Edinburgh Leaders and Supervisors”.

The Earl of Wessex gave his address and spoke about the work that the Duke of Edinburgh has done in setting up and supporting the programme over the years. Many other speakers followed, including TVs Phillip Schofield.

West Wight Sports & Community Centre run a DofE programme every Tuesday evening. Anyone interested in joining up to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme needs to be aged between 14-24 and should contact the Centre on 01983 752168 or [email protected].
