Medina College in Newport is the latest school to confirm a positive COVID-19 case within the school community.
Earlier today, Barton Primary School – also in Newport – announced that a small number of children had been told to stay at home for 14 days following a positive test result.
Now, a letter has been sent out to parents of students at Medina College advising the same. It is unclear exactly how many pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate. It’s understood to be the Year 11 group affected.
Parents have taken to social media to complain that only a select number of individuals have been told to self isolate, unlike Cowes Enterprise College who sent the whole of Year 8 home yesterday (Friday).
Medina College says it is working with Public Health England on the matter and that the school remains open as normal.
The news comes after 3 educational establishments – Binstead Primary School, Cowes Enterprise College and Island VI Form – announced positive cases within their school communities yesterday.
Typical confusion, just close the school and make everyone isolate. What’s so difficult about that.
While it is impossible to control a respiratory virus, it is a breeze to control you.
The children will bring this home to those who are more vulnerable, what a great burden for them knowing that.
What can one say other than, i was expecting it to affect the younger generation, i just hope these become isolated cases or its going to spread very quickly and of course, they will be taking it home with them.
If these high cases 15-22 per day continue then fully expect to see more cases in schools, it’s an obvious bi product of having more cases in the community.
I really hope our current mock-down has the desired effect on local cases. If not then schools will need to be closed if not this mock-down then certainly after the 2nd of December.IF we can make it that far closing schools for two-three weeks plus the Xmas break would be a good way to break the cycle of transmission and get on top of this virus.

If only the vaccine was here now. We grow older each day, as does the risk of unknown underlying conditions developing within us all. Wish they would use the Island as test for it, rather than giving us an ‘app’ first.
The schools can and some do an amazing job of keeping the schools safe, but they dont have any control when pupils go home or during half term, and within 5 days of the end of half term (the incubation period of the virus) 5 schools report cases of covid 19. We dont know if it is a child or an adult in these schools. LOCK DOWN should be a lock down and schools should be closed if we are going to bring the r no down below 1.
