Almost £3,500 has been raised for 2 Island charities thanks to Terry & Sue Ramplin’s Christmas Lights display at Long Lane in Newport.
Each year Terry and Sue invite members of the public to enjoy their magical display of lights – a festive tradition which has been taking place for over 20 years. However, 2020 was a year unlike any other due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With no big switch-on ceremony and no Southern Vectis tour bus, it was uncertain how much money would be raised for Monkey Haven and Care in the Garden – the 2 local good causes selected to benefit from the 2020 display. However, Islanders dug deep and donated an incredible £3,458, which has been split equally with each charity receiving £1,729.
In 2019, a total of £4,300 was raised for The Wight Brainy Bunch and John’s Club.
Sadly, Terry wasn’t able to hand over the cheques in the usual fashion today (Tuesday), but the money will now be making its way to both Care in the Garden and Monkey Haven to enable them to continue their good work throughout 2021 and beyond.
Since 2014 alone, the Ramplins have raised £29,637 for charity, as well as everything raised in the preceding years. It’s only made possible with the support of many local businesses and thanks has been expressed to Will Groves at Combley Farm (Christmas Tree), ADL Scaffolding, Sydenhams, Stage Gear (Snow Machine) and Coast and Country Marquees.
Terry has also expressed his thanks to everyone who donated this year and looks forward to welcoming you all again in 2021.
