Isle of Wight resident Rob Ashley is set to meet Royalty at the end of this weekend’s London Marathon, which he is running in aid of the charity Young Minds and in memory of a close friend who committed suicide.
Rob, who has never ran a marathon before, will be attending the post-run Young Minds event where he hopes to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
The Head of Operations for Kingswood Camps on the Isle of Wight has been training around the Island with his 5-year-old daughter.
Speaking about the upcoming event Rob said:
“I intend to have a cup of tea with Kate, Wills and Harry afterwards as they are patrons of the charity and I’ve fortunately been invited to an event afterwards so I better take a can of Lynx!”
When asked what it means to be running for Young Minds, Rob said:
“Sadly I can relate to the charity Young Minds/Heads Together with a family friend taking their own life a few years ago, a dad and recent grandad. He had been suffering with mental health issues but not one of us thought he would do this, which has made me think about the amount of pressure some people are under and the more we can do to raise awareness and the profile of this the better. The statistics make truly sad reading”.
