An Island couple are to embark on a world wide walk in just over 2 weeks time to raise awareness and funds for the ongoing research into fighting Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), an inherited disease which leads to blindness.
Robin Frape and his partner Julie Binnington will be leaving their home in Ryde on 31st March before making their way to Yarmouth, where they will catch the ferry to Lymington. Their walk will then continue north to Scotland and then down through Ireland and beyond.
The couple are walking to collect as many visual memories as possible as Robin has inherited RP, which will ultimately lead to him losing his sight.
Funds are being raised for RP Fighting Blindness, a charitable organisation which supports medical research with the aim of increasing scientific understanding and finding treatments or cures for the condition worldwide. A JustGiving page has been set up to allow supportive Islanders to donate to the cause – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/walking-terra-firma.
Members of the RP Fighting Blindness Isle of Wight Group will be waving the couple off on their fundraising journey.
